Physiotherapy in Koekelberg: what is it?
Physiotherapy (called kinésithérapie or kinesitherapie in Belgium) treats pain and movement problems through exercise, manual therapy and physical techniques. It helps relieve pain, recover after an injury or operation, and regain strength, mobility and independence.
At Centre Médical Koekelberg, three physiotherapists treat children and adults: general, sports and respiratory physiotherapy (including for children) and post-operative rehabilitation. The practice is equipped with a shockwave therapy device, among other things, and some sessions can include dry needling or manual therapy.
What we offer
Who is it for?
- Back pain, lower back pain, sciatica, neck pain
- Sprains, tendinitis and sports injuries
- Rehabilitation after surgery (knee, shoulder, hip…)
- Respiratory physiotherapy for babies and children (bronchiolitis)
- Loss of mobility, balance or strength in older people
- Chronic pain and musculoskeletal disorders
What happens at the first appointment?
The first session starts with an assessment: questions about your pain and medical history, and mobility and strength tests. The physiotherapist sets goals and a treatment plan with you. Bring your medical prescription, any scans (X-ray, MRI) and comfortable clothing. A session usually lasts about 30 minutes.
Reimbursement
Physiotherapy sessions are reimbursed by the mutuelle (health insurance fund) with a doctor’s prescription. The number of reimbursed sessions and the amount covered depend on the condition (common condition, serious condition, post-operative care). Without a prescription, a session is still possible but is not reimbursed.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a prescription to see a physiotherapist in Belgium?
You can see a physiotherapist without a prescription, but only a doctor’s prescription allows reimbursement by your mutuelle (health insurance fund). The centre’s GP can write one if needed.
How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem: a few sessions are often enough for recent pain, while rehabilitation after surgery takes several weeks. The physiotherapist gives you an estimate after the assessment in the first session.
Do you offer respiratory physiotherapy for babies in Koekelberg?
Yes, paediatric respiratory physiotherapy is available at the centre, in particular for bronchiolitis or chest congestion in infants and children.
Which languages do the centre’s physiotherapists speak?
Depending on the practitioner: French, Dutch, English and Arabic. Each physiotherapist’s languages are listed on their profile.
How do I book a physiotherapist in Koekelberg?
You can book online 24/7 from the practitioner’s profile, call 02 844 32 20 or come to the centre’s reception desk at Avenue Emile Bossaert 27 in Koekelberg.
