Osteopathy in Koekelberg: what is it?

Osteopathy is a manual therapy that aims to restore the body’s mobility: joints, muscles, fascia, and sometimes the visceral or cranial areas. The osteopath looks for the origin of the pain, which is not always where you feel it.

At Centre Médical Koekelberg, the osteopath (D.O.) has been practising for more than ten years and uses structural, visceral and craniosacral techniques adapted to each patient. Osteopathy complements medical care and does not replace it.

What we offer

Osteopathic manipulation
Treatment of back pain
Joint mobilisation
Cranial therapy
Whole-body approach

Who is it for?

  • Back and neck pain, lumbago
  • Muscle tension and stiff joints
  • Headaches of cervical or tension origin
  • Pain related to posture or screen work
  • Functional digestive problems (visceral approach)
  • Recovery after sport

What happens at the first appointment?

The osteopath starts with a detailed conversation (medical history, injuries, lifestyle), followed by mobility tests. The manual treatment is then adapted to your situation. A session usually lasts 45 minutes to an hour. Mention any medical condition or recent test results.

Reimbursement

Osteopathy is not reimbursed by INAMI/RIZIV (national health insurance). Most Belgian mutuelles (health insurance funds) do, however, provide a contribution for a limited number of sessions per year, if the osteopath meets their criteria. Check your mutuelle’s conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Is osteopathy reimbursed in Belgium?

Not by INAMI/RIZIV, but most mutuelles contribute partially, often for a few sessions per year. Ask the practitioner for a certificate and check your mutuelle’s conditions.

How many osteopathy sessions will I need?

One to three sessions a few weeks apart are often enough for a recent problem. The osteopath will tell you whether follow-up is useful or whether another type of care (doctor, physiotherapist) is more appropriate.

What is the difference between an osteopath and a physiotherapist?

A physiotherapist works mainly through exercise and rehabilitation, often over several sessions and with a prescription. An osteopath uses manual techniques to release tension, with sessions further apart. The two approaches complement each other and are both available at the centre.

How do I book an osteopath in Koekelberg?

You can book online 24/7 from the practitioner’s profile, call 02 844 32 20 or come to the centre’s reception desk at Avenue Emile Bossaert 27 in Koekelberg.
