Speech Therapy
Treatment of language, speech and swallowing disorders.
Speech Therapy in Koekelberg: what is it?
Speech therapy (called logopédie in Belgium) assesses and treats disorders of spoken and written language, speech, voice and swallowing. It helps children and adults communicate, read, write or eat better.
At Centre Médical Koekelberg, the speech therapist, a graduate of ULB, specialises in orofacial myofunctional disorders in children and teenagers (swallowing, breathing, chewing, thumb-sucking) and in learning disorders from age 5 to 12 (spoken language, reading, spelling, maths). She also carries out written-language assessments for adults.
What we offer
Who is it for?
- Speech or language delay in children
- Dyslexia, dysorthographia, dyscalculia
- Atypical swallowing, mouth breathing, thumb-sucking
- Stuttering
- Written-language assessments for adults (reasonable adjustments)
What happens at the first appointment?
Everything starts with a speech therapy assessment: an interview with the parents or the patient, followed by standardised tests. The speech therapist writes a report and, if needed, proposes a treatment plan. Bring any school reports, previous reports and the medical prescription.
Reimbursement
Speech therapy can be reimbursed by the mutuelle (health insurance fund) for certain disorders, provided there is a medical prescription, an assessment demonstrating the disorder and the approval of the mutuelle’s medical adviser. The speech therapist guides you through these steps.
